Abstract

Abstract


Even though road repairs have been carried out periodically, based on observations quaite a lot of damage has occured in the Soekarno Hatta Balikpapan road.Therefore,an assesment of the condition of the road is needed, so that we can know in detail the damage that occured and recomenations for repairs can be given in accordance with damage that occured.


            Observations made on the Soekarno Hatta road section 9 to 11 km are intended to conduct road condition research using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method by dividing the path of several segments, namely every 100 m. Then, each road segment is observed visually and measurement to identify the type of damage that exists.


            The results showed that the pavement condition index value (PCI) on the average of Soekarno Hatta road sections 9 to 11 km in Balikpapan was 68.1 which was included in the good category, while road conditions were continuously improved. The biggest cause of damage is caused by a poor drainage system, low asphalt levels, less compaction, and no previous repairs that increase damage, and recommendations for improvements to some of the damage used are: Repair method P3 (Coating cracks) and P5 (Patching holes).
